Frame technology full-scale aquaculture facility, on just one hectare of land (2.5 acres), is capable of producing 1,000 tons of fish annually – in a secure, controlled and healthy environment. Large quantities of fish can be produced close to the point of consumption more economically and without the many problems and threats which characterize sea-based fish farming.
The facility is designed and can also be constructed in modular format, with each individual unit producing 250 tons of fish annually. The present business overview presents the costs associated with the construction and equipping of one such modular unit – so that the Frame Aquaculture Facility can be scaled according to production requirements and the amount of available investment capital, keeping in mind certain economies of scale (construction and operation) when a larger facility, comprising a number of units, is built.
production facility consists of three levels: The basement level contains all filtration and water- purification systems. The ground-floor level contains the on-growing raceways (120 meters in length), while the top floor contains the pre-growing raceways as well as food-storage and processing areas. Each production module/unit measures 140m x 6m x 6m. Once the on-growing and pre-growing raceways are filled with water, it is constantly filtered, and only 1% need be replenished each month.
Special sensors keep the water temperature constant throughout the growing period, with an average range of 22-26 degrees centigrade for Mediterranean species. In addition to controlling the water temperature, this facility is designed to control these other crucial factor as well: oxygen content, salinity/ph, ionization, electro-magnetic fields, current speed and light – including daily U.V. treatments to eliminate harmful micro-organisms. These factors are adjusted periodically during each
24-hour cycle (according to the needs of each fish species) to optimize their feeding, digestion, exercise, growth and overall health.
Frame’s aquaculture technology is fully automated, and the growing environment is carefully monitored and controlled. Raising fish using this special land-based technology eliminates the need for costly divers, expensive maintenance and frequent replacement of equipment. In contrast with sea-based cage farms, where the frequent escape of fishes and the prevalence of disease typically result in up to a 50% loss of juvenile stock, Frame aquaculture provides a secure, clean and disease- free environment. And whereas severe weather incidents, which are growing more and more frequent as the climate warms, often result in the total loss of a fish-farm’s entire produce, and even the destruction of the cages and mooring structures, the Frame land-based aquaculture facilities are immune to the threat of bad weather and can even be designed for complete energy and water self- sufficiency.
Many valuable fish species, in growing demand in restaurants and markets around the world, can be grown more quickly than in sea-based fish farms, without the use of antibiotics or chemicals and without polluting the environment in any way. Furthermore, the loss of valuable fish feed is practically zero in comparison with the sea-cage average of 30%. This elimination of feed waste is critical to achieving the optimal FCR (Feed-Conversion Rate) of 1/1, while the industry
average for traditional sea-based cage farming is approximately 2/1. Finally, by growing fish close to the point of consumption, one of the largest expenses associated with sea-based fish farming – transportation – can be drastically reduced.
